Today I received some very sad news. My grandfather passed away in the Philippines this morning. I was awakened by a strange phone call with a Miami area code saying something about my grandfather. But the call wasn't clear and the signal faded. I thought it might have been a wrong number since there was absolutely no reason to get a call from Miami regarding my grandfather. I don't have any relatives from Miami. Anyways, I tried to call the number back and all it said was, "All circuits are busy." So I pretty much dismissed the call.
A few hours later, I get a call from my dad who told me the news. Apparently the call from Miami was my Aunt from the Philippines using a calling card. I already knew from the sound of my dad's voice that there was something wrong. This was my maternal grandfather. He had lived with us for several years when I was a child. Unfortunately I never really got to know him because of the language barrier. He did not speak much English. What I do know about him is that he always had a smile on his face. ALWAYS. And he never complained about anything. NEVER. Even though he did not understand what we were saying, he would simply nod his head and smile. And he enjoyed giving us $20 everytime he would receive his pension.
My mom had made the decision to send him back to the Philippines in 2005 when his health started to take a turn and he needed more supervision. He still had children in the Philippines, and they could take care of him 24 hours. When we said goodbye to him in 2005, I knew there was a chance it would be the last time we'd see each other. While it makes me sad to know that he is gone from this Earth, I know that he is in a better place and that he is together with my grandmother who had passed before I was even born.
I know, I know... I'm already behind and the year has just begun! I've been busy working on some exciting projects in my studio, including my latest... our 2008 Year in Review video. It is a bit lengthy, but it's 365 days condensed into 23 minutes!
I hope to get back to some regular blogging one of these days, but I've been distracted by kids, new projects, Facebook, and everything else! There simply isn't enough time in the day... but I try. One of my New Year's resolutions is to create more projects for myself and my family. Often times I get caught up doing projects for others, that I let my own go to the wayside. I am taking part in Ali Edward's One Little Word and my word for 2009 is
{accomplish}
I need to post it LARGE near my computer so that I see it EVERYDAY. Trying to narrow my choice down to one word was difficult, but I think I am set and am ready to ACCOMPLISH many great things this year.
Until next time, Happy 2009 everyone... let's make it a great year!
